HAVE A PLAN
Know your skillset and what your passions are. Now is the perfect time to change direction if you have been unhappy in your career and been looking for something different. If you've been putting off quitting your job because you think it would make you look bad to future employers, use this current situation as your reason to alter your direction. That being said, write down your thoughts before you begin, knowing your "why" and "how" clearly will help your passion and love for the job and career field really shine through in an interview. Use it as your mission statement in your CV intro to help sell yourself to the company.
HAVE A GROWTH MINDSET
It's possible to get down and feel as though you've lost everything when you lose a job, especially if you have held the same position for years and have gotten comfortable with the routine. However, change is as good as a rest, so the the saying goes. The only way is up, take each day as it comes and aim to achieve one goal everyday. A goal could be, call 10 businesses in my local area to ask if they are hiring someone. Another goal could be enrol on a course to help you gain skills. Write a physical list and keep it in sight, check off each achievement it will help your growth mindset as you see the progress you are making towards your new future.
ASK FOR HELP
Delegating is a great way to further your reach when looking for a job. A careers advisor can help you with your objectives and act as a coach to keep you motivated and stimulate ideas to help you find work. Collate a bank of resources you can call on through various networking sites. Employment agencies and online recruitment sites such as Linkedin and Furlearn.com are excellent sources of knowledge and networking.
KEEP IN THE KNOW
Research, browse and read constantly, the world changes rapidly and the more up to date your knowledge the quicker you will pick up new ideas and be able to learn new things. Employers want lots of bang for their buck so being multi-faceted or at least having a good outward looking mind is going to be useful for the company.
BE MEMORABLE
Let your knowledge be known to the world. There's really no excuse anymore to stay hidden away thinking simply applying with a great CV will get you noticed. Attention spans are short and the world is full of people communicating and telling the world what they can offer.
Get into the conversation and put your voice across. Linkedin is a great platform for this, but keep is employment and business focused, getting too political can get you remembered for all the wrong reasons too!
BE PERSISTENT AND CONSISTENT

They have had to let go of people very quickly and also are needing to rehire very quickly too. Some people are finding themselves in jobs they are not right for, companies are finding they are hiring people who don't necessarily fit the position but they 'needed' someone so they hired on a short temporary contract. It will take time for the balance to come back and the pace to slow down again, so if you are feeling that you can't keep up, you are not the only one. Take each day as it comes. Keep your steady focus and keep going. You have the skills, you have the experience, you are willing to learn and you're a team player. You have lots of support around you, so rinse and repeat this quick fire guide and you will get there!
HOW TO DRESS TO IMPRESS FOR AN INTERVIEW
So you've got past the first hurdle and been invited for an interview. Now to bring your A game with your wardrobe. You don't want your interview to be overshadowed by your outfit screaming for more attention than you, unless you are going for the position as a fashion assistant (in which case you'll know far more than me) the interviewer isn't going to be interested in what you are wearing but it is essential you leave an impression for the right reasons and not because you've worn the outfit you wore to the Halloween party in 1982.
Here are a few do's and don'ts for dressing for an interview.
DRESS FOR YOUR SHAPE
If like me you are a tiny 4'9" be mindful of avoiding items of clothing that make you look like you are wearing your mothers clothes. Keep the proportions flattering and avoid huge outdated shoulder-pads or pleated skirts that can make petit frames with youthful features look like a 12 year old just walked in for a senior role.
DRESS FOR THE ROLE
Be mindful of the role you are going for, is it corporate? is it casual? What do people in the environment wear? Even if you would be working in a dress down casual environment, always keep it smart. Casual means comfortable, not scruffy. Avoid fashionable 'tears' 'stains' fake patches or half unravelled Avant guard statement jumpers, your interviewer might misinterpret your fashionable effort for carelessness.
KNOW THE SHADES THE SUIT YOU
Neutrals are classy and elegant, though they can white wash pale complexions, if like me you are verging on the translucent skin tones bring contract balance to you outfit with a small splash of a bold accent colour. Placed in a strategic place can draw attention to your best feature.
MAKE IT SPECIAL
Details Matter! Dress as well as you can afford. There is truth to be said in the adage Dress For Success. If you dress as though you already have the job it is easier for the interviewer to see you working with them. Subtle accessories such as watches, necklaces earrings, fragrance all add to overall impression you will make, but don't go overboard, simple and understated goes a long away. Keep earrings small, necklaces simple and one squirt of fragrance just before your interview is plenty. One golden rule is anything that can shine should shine, so no scuffed shoes! polish, polish, polish. Hair should be clean and neat and give some attention to your fingernails!, it's all good for the self care confidence boost too!
